Interim Submission

So far I have been trying using different style markers to create different style movement. Unfortunately, I cannot have a mark inside the animation to make another animation because the software does not recognize it. As a result, I had to adjust the buildAR models to fit my requirement. It is quite hard to adjust position in buildAR because the model was always shaking and the moving distance was not able to be measure. I learned lots of stuff on the internet but there are still many tutorials with heaps of max technique.

Few tests

I made the animation process in 3ds max.

However, it was not working with the .ive file in buildAR.

The more tricky thing is..the tea pot works.

So struggling....

Finally, it is done by using the 'link' system. I found out that the moving stuff in max was only recognized in its own basic form. So I had to use them as the basic indicators for those complicated model.

Mini-tanks came out in sequence from a hole in my room wall -test1

This was an example I was trying to figure out.

Isidro blasco - special example

This is the work of an artiest called Lsidro Blasco. He used pictures to create a 3d environment. It is quite like the method of photosynth. He took photos and stuck them together in a way of letting the images cover each other.

Assignment 3 proposal

For this assignment, I am going to build an Augmented Reality which is consist of animations and things happen around. I will transfer reactors, movements and other animation factors into marker to build a mesh up world in buildAR. The concept would be based on the destruction of building and the re-growth of life. I will do some photosynths of little houses and military models.

Assessment Criteria

Have thought and care been invested into all aspects of the design process in context to the technology you have experimented with throughout the course, including a noticeable attempt to engage with the technology in a creative way.

Blog: Is your blog neatly laid out and easy to follow, with all task requirements posted to your blog?

Images: Are your images of an acceptable quality, showing thought and consideration to image selection and camera framing? Are all images not your own referenced correctly?

Text: Is any text you have written concise and informative? Is the text significant to your project, outlining aspects of your process that may not be immediately apparent through visual material?

Installation: Does your installation work? Is there a novel approach to the interaction between real life and digital content?

Submission Requirements

• Supporting sketches of your design ideas in progress. These should be a continuing exercise used to help with your design process.

• Visual References ( around 10 images/videos on blog, with references)

• Minimum of 200 words describing your project. This should read like a gallery installation
text.

• Minimum of 6 high quality images, showing renders/comparisons of your photogrammetric reconstruction.

• Physical models/system to base your AR on – could be a 3D printed model

• Minimum 1 x 30‐60 second video (polished, and with sound), showing the interactive
elements of your project in a creative way.

• Minimum of 4 AR Markers – with different related models/content based on each marker.

• Blog ‐ Evidence of progression of your work posted to your blog. Trials, failures, successes, etc...

• Images ‐ Images should be of a good quality, suggested image size is 1280 pixels x 960 pixels.

All assignment submission requirements to be posted to your blog.

• Sketches – should show your design process in progress.

• Submit a folder with your student number and name (eg: 1234567_JoeSmith) with all assignment requirements to emustore by Monday 9am, 7th February.

Making animation

Following what the tutorial doing on the internet, there was something wrong with exporting .ive file to BuildAR. As showing below, the only thing I can do was to make a box and move it first.

It seems 3ds max only allows me to export the moving of a simple shape object.

Then I used the tool "link" to cannect the boats and the box. So the boats will run at the same rate as the box moves.

I tried exporting with hidding the box but the boats disappeared as well.

This was the final result. I kept the box far away from the boats so we won't see it in a certain range.

Concept

The idea comes from the famous singer, the "King of Rock and Roll", Elvis Aaron Presley. I was gonna build a model of a rocker. Meanwhile, I found out a puppy doll which reminded me of his song, "Hound Dog". So the final object comes out with two speakers on its shoulder and a headphone to make a "rocker dog". I want the massive "speaker shoulder" to show the power of music. Unfortunately, I do not have to a guitar to make it perfect. And also my sunglasses are too shiny for the photosynth principle.

church and toothpaste

This is a church in Coogee. I took a set of photos of the front part and produce the first successful photosynth. Those trees in front of the church were quite annoying for making photosynth. Also the roof part is missing because it could not be taken. This is the first time I realised how I can collect good and enough photos to do it.

This toothpaste was used to make a photosynth for a simple object. The result came out very well so I understood the more colorful item was a most imprtant point.
